Lithograph sketch made in 1840 by Gavarni, a popular French illustrator who spent years drawing Parisian characters and manners. This one is labeled "hospital attendant nurse." He wears a broad apron which must not have pockets, since he appears to be reaching under it to put his hands in his trouser pockets.
