There are many ways a Victorian gentleman may choose to tie his neckwear. Here is one of the simpler knots, illustrated that you may practice at home. We have made a special cravat for demonstration, where the half you hold in one hand is dark, the other light, that you may better see the knot being formed. The cravat used here is 63" long, the same as if you cut a bias (45 degree diagonal) strip across a piece of material 45 inches wide. The hanging ends can be tucked into your waistcoat or held by a cravat pin.
