Welcome! 1850s Contemporary Illustrations
Couple Dag. Anson

This frame is stamped "Anson," the daguerreotypist whose gallery was the most prolific, employing 15 photographers. The gent wears a suit of a light color and it is forced closed over his waistcoat, as though to hide someting. The style of evening gown on his lady, with the short straight sleeves, was in fashion in the mid 1840's, but this daguerreotype must date 1853 or later because that's when Anson set up shop on Broadway.
