This is a morning coat, a
coat for daywear that sweeps away from the waist down into the tails
rather than cutting across the torso. The checked pattern in brown and
other colors begins to demonstrate the variety of colors and textures
available to Victorian men for daywear. This particular coat is very
generous in its supply of pockets; you can see an exterior left breast
pocket (called the "ticket pocket"), an interior right breast pocket,
and also pocket(s) on the waistline.
