1840s Frock Coat Collar

This closeup of an 1840s frock coat shows the construction of the collar; it was made to cose all the way up and the button that holds it shut is hidden by the lapels when they are worn open as shown. The velvet collar is a common bit of decoration for frock coats and is not always the same color as the rest of the coat.
